A Coast Guard rescue helicopter responded to the fishing vessel Lady Kiska taking on water about seven miles off Cape Chiniak on Kodiak Island early this morning (Thursday).

Air Station Kodiak received a call at 4:15 a.m. from the 154-foot fishing boat reporting that they were taking on water in the engine room, and that one of two dewatering pumps had a damaged discharge valve.

An MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter was launched from Air Station Kodiak at about 4:45 to deliver two additional pumps.

The Lady Kiska’s crew of four successfully dewatered the engine room and arrived back in Kodiak shortly before noon.

The boat reported 33,000 gallons of fuel onboard.  The Coast Guard helicopter flew over the area and reported no sheen.
