The Adult Basic Education department at Kodiak College wants to strengthen its network with other agencies in order to help more people. The department director is Adelia Myrick who talks about an upcoming event that is designed to help spread the word.

--          (GED 1                                       "Well, Friday afternoon ... down the road")

She said the school doesn't yet have the details about those changes but they may include more rigorous testing standards. The GED testing service is changing the exam in order to help testers be better prepared to enter college or to qualify for higher paying jobs.

Myrick said that Friday's meeting is open to anyone but the main purpose is to provide information to people in local help agencies.

--          (GED 2                                            "The meeting is ...a difficult process.")

At the program's peak two years ago, 48 students finished the GED program. Since that time, Myrick said she's seen a steady decline in numbers.

--          (GED 3                                          "and last year ... people are graduating.")

Friday's event will take place at 3 p.m. at the Kodiak College Campus Center in room 208. The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about GED testing and the English as a second language program.
