The keynote speaker for the Harbormasters and Port Administrators conference was Senator Gary Stevens. He spoke this (Tuesday) morning at the Kodiak convention center.

The Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators conference runs through Friday. Members from around the state and the port of Seattle are in town for the event

--          (Stevens 1                                           :52                               "The main point ... occurs as well.")

When it comes to bringing in more dollars for port improvements, the Republican Senator urged the attendees to do something that most Alaskans would rather avoid; to support the state gas tax.

--          (Stevens 2                                           :42                               "Some people would ... small gas tax.")

Stevens said that coming up with more state oil and gas revenue is key to supporting ports and harbors in Alaska.

--          (Stevens 3                                           :25                               "We know what ... charter fishermen.")
