For the first time in four years the Kodiak High School Bears will not be playing in the state football championship game. The Bears were stopped by the Kenai Kardinals 34-to-13 on Friday evening, ending their season with a 5-and-5 record.

The Bears played the Kards tough through the first half, only giving up one touchdown, but the Kodiak offense was stopped by a Kenai defense that allowed only one first down and a handful of yards. Even though the Bears tied it up in the third period, the Kards poured on the touchdowns before the Bears scored one last time.

Kenai will go on to play the Soldotna in the small-school championship game on Saturday, after the Stars downed the Homer Mariners over the weekend.
