In its effort to promote healthy families, the Kodiak Women's Resource and Crisis Center has contracted with a new immigrant outreach and advocate professional.

Edith Stone is now available to provide services for Spanish-speaking women seeking support and assistance. Stone is originally from El Salvador and has been living in Kodiak for 4 years. During that time she's been a volunteer for the immigrant community. Her experience as a newcomer to Kodiak inspired her to reach out to others.

Spanish speakers make up a large percentage of the Kodiak population. Stone says that she's looking forward to serving that community and to exchanging information on family issues. She also emphasized that women need not fear their legal status when seeking help.

Through K-W-R-C-C, Stone also offers a Spanish language support group called "Soluciones" . The focus of the program is on recovery from difficult experiences and building self-esteem. Soluciones (so-loose-ee-OH-ness) meets twice a month at the Marian Center behind St.Mary's church. Stone is available for assisting women Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the KWRCC offices at 422 Hillside Drive. For more Information about these free programs you can call Stone at 486-6171.
