The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services is conducting an H1N1 pandemic flu workshop in Kodiak today. The meeting will bring together key people and agencies from across the community including medical and public safety workers and leaders in all levels of government and education.

Sally Abbott will conduct the all-day workshop; she's the director of the public health preparedness program for the state. Abbott explained that we are currently experiencing a pandemic which means that there is a new strain of flu around the world. The good news, she says, is that so far, the cases have been mild ones. She had words of praise for the work that's already been undertaken locally. Abbot says that Kodiak has a plan in place and now is the time to see how it will work. She conducts similar workshops all around the state.

Today's H1N1 flu workshop takes place in the Betty Springhill Hall on the Saint Paul church property at 3077 East Rezanof Drive. Anyone who's interested can attend.
