A new round of Kodiak College adult education classes have begun. English as a second language and G-E-D preparation classes started. on Tuesday. Adelia Myrick is the Adult Basic Education coordinator at the College and she says that it's not too late for new or returning students to jump in to one of the 12 classes that are currently underway.

--          (ESL 1   "They've already...that they missed it.")

Myrick said that another English class will begin on Thursday of this week, "English for Citizenship" is back by popular demand.

--          (ESL 2 "We have in the ... throughout the semester.")

About 150 students a year take adult education classes. Myrick says that keeps her department very busy. Some of those students are ready to take their G-E-D and stay for a short time while others stay with the program long term. For some of the students signing up for classes is the most difficult step to furthering their education.

--          (ESL 3       "Well for GED....whatever the next step is.")

Myrick is eager to dispel the stigma attached to the high school equivalency exam or G-E-D.

--          (ESL 4    "There are... having a high school diploma.")

And finally, the program director has a message she wants to share with anyone who is thinking about taking an English or G-E-D class through Kodiak College:

--          (ESL 5  "Call me, I'm not.... fits all in this program.")

Classes began earlier this week but enrollment is ongoing. The "English for Citizenship" class begins this Thursday night at 7 p.m.
