Military veterans in Kodiak will get a chance to speak face-to-face with a veteran's entitlement expert today. Scott Thorstad, who works for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be available at the Kodiak Job Center to provide free consultation on the many entitlements the Veterans Administration has to offer. Thorstad will be at the Alaska Job Center, at 309 Center Avenue, today, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

--          (Veterans 1                 24 sec              "Some of the entitlements ... no other types of income.")

Thought Thorstad works for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW membership is NOT a requirement to take advantage of the free service he provides.

Thorstad is hoping his outreach efforts will bring more veterans in to see him, as a surprising percentage are unaware of what benefits they may be eligible for:

--          (Veterans 2                 32 sec              "I find that a majority of ... it is sometimes over the phone.")

He encourages veterans to bring their "DD 214" discharge papers if they have them, as they're vital to the veteran's benefits process. He says he can show a veteran how to obtain those documents from the National Archive if they've been lost.

Thorstad will be at the Alaska Job Center, at 309 Center Avenue, today, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
