Kodiak's King Salmon Sportfishing Derby wrapped up with the awards banquet last week. Judi Kidder, the tournament administrator, says about 12-thousand dollars was raised for the Kodiak Regional Aquaculture Association, which runs the salmon hatchery here. She says the fish that turned out to be the biggest was caught on May 31st, very early in the tournament.

--          (Derby 1                     11 sec              "The biggest fish ... from Placerville, California.")

Kidder is quick to add that there weren't just a few prizes for the largest fish - the tournament had many different categories:

--          (Derby 2                     43 sec              "The prizes went across ... be taking home some cash.")

She said several positions wound up in ties, and had to be determined by a coin toss. The prizes were handed out at a banquet last week, where the segment from the TV show Hog-quest was played:

--          (Derby 3                     38 sec              "They filmed the ... fish the king salmon tournament.")

Kidder says over the winter she will consider extending next year's tournament through the end of July. You can find complete results on the tournament's website: Kodiak fishing derby dot org.
