            Recent Kodiak High School graduate Trevor Dunbar won the Nike Outdoor National two-mile race on Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina, by trouncing a field with a number of strong runners from around the country.

--          (Dunbar 1                   19 sec              "I was coming into the race ... really a clear-cut favorite.")

 

            Even though he's from Alaska, he said he didn't think the warm muggy weather in the mid- to high-80s was any more of a disadvantage for him than for the other runners.

            He described the pace of the race as slow for the first six laps.

            His next race will be 5,000 meter at the USA Track-and-Field Junior Nationals Sunday in Eugene, Oregon. The race is for 19-year-olds and under, and Dunbar expects a lot of competition:
