Air Station Kodiak Rescue Swimmer Wil Milam is receiving more accolades for a February 2007 rescue, during which Milam’s survival suit malfunctioned.

Milam was part of an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew that rescued three crewmembers from the fishing vessel Illusion, which sank near Dutch Harbor on February 10, 2007. Milam’s suit sprang a leak during the rescue and he himself had to be treated for hypothermia.

He’s received a number of awards and commendations for the rescue, and now he’ll be able to add another: A gold medal from the nonprofit Association for Rescue at Sea.

The new Alaska-themed quarters are just now making an appearance in Kodiak, but not yet in numbers large enough to satisfy the demand.

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly will be holding a work session tonight - the first one they've had in nearly a month.

Topping the agenda is a conversation with Kodiak Senator Gary Stevens.

With Kodiak's representation in the State House up in the air until after the November General Election, Stevens is the only member of the Kodiak delegation the assembly has to talk to about the next legislative session.

They will have the opportunity to discuss legislative priorities with borough lobbyist Mark Hickey, who will be in attendance tonight as well. Along those lines is a review of the borough's capital improvements wish list for 2009.
