            Kodiak's J-V basketball teams will get their time in the spotlight this week during the Subway J-V Basketball Tournament. The tournament, which features boys' and girls' teams from three visiting schools, begins this Thursday afternoon.

            Bears Boys basketball coach Amy Fogle offered some background on the event.

            The devastation in Haiti has inspired the staff and students at East Elementary school to lend a hand. On Friday the school is hosting a spaghetti feed to raise funds for victims of the January 12th earthquake.

            East Elementary principal Paul Kubena said that the decision to join the relief effort came about spontaneously.

            On KMXT's Talk of the Rock show on Tuesday, the subject was the borough's proposed plan to start curbside trash collection with Alaska Waste. Two members of the Solid Waste Advisory Board; Cindy Harrington and Marion Owen were guests on the show. They talked about why they think its important to give curbside pick-up a try.
