Primary Election Registration Deadline Looms |

Time is
running out for people planning to vote in the upcoming Alaska Primary
Elections.
This
weekend is the deadline for registering to vote in the August 24th primary.
You can
register to vote-or to change your party affiliation-by going to the borough or
city clerk's office in the borough building before the end of the day Friday.
You can
also register on-line at the division of elections web site. But, you'll want
to scope out the site ahead of time to make sure you qualify and have access to
digitized versions of required identification.
The Alaska
Division of Elections website is elections dot Alaska dot gov.

24-Hour Relay for Life Starts Friday 6 p.m. |

Kodiak's
Relay for Life -which raises money for the American Cancer Society while
remembering cancer victims and celebrating cancer survivors - is coming up this
weekend at Baranof Park. Three members of the organizing committee were on
KMXT's Talk of the Rock Tuesday to discuss the event. They were Pam Forman,
Angela McFarland and Jessica Skonberg.

Polar Star Aground; Crew Safe |

The crew of
a Kodiak-based seiner is safe after running aground in the Shelikof Strait and
puncturing the hull Tuesday morning. The captain of the 58-foot fishing vessel
Polar Star radioed the Coast Guard just after 10 Tuesday morning saying the
crew might have to abandon ship.
