            Three Kodiak teen-agers took 2nd place in a national cooking contests held last week in Chicago.

            The three teens were members of Kodiak's Culinary Arts classes at Kodiak High School and competed against more than 40 other teams in the national competition.

            The competition was part of the 65th  birthday celebration of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization. The celebration included a convention of 6,000 students from around the country to celebrate the decades of successes of the group that used to be known as Future Farmers of America. 

            Kodiak's winning chefs include two recently graduated seniors: Nina Gronn and Bryce Thomas, as well as Jayse Taan who will be a senior in the fall.

            KMXT's Run the Rock marathon, half-marathon and 5K will take place on Saturday, October 9th.That means there are 12 and a half weeks left to train for the event. To provide some encouragement and motivation, three of Kodiak's many fitness professionals appeared on KMXT's Talk of the Rock yesterday.

They talked about fitness and training and why they love to share what they do with others.

            Pauline Hsieh is new to Kodiak. She's a runner and she teaches Hatha yoga at A Balanced Approach.
