200 Librarians Meeting in Kodiak

Scores of librarians will descend on Kodiak Friday for the annual Alaska Library Association meeting. City of Kodiak Library Director Joe D’Elia describes it as a learning opportunity for the participants, many of whom come from small communities.

The Alaska Library Association convention starts on Friday. The keynote address by Willie Hensley at 9:15 Saturday morning in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium is open to the public. Other speakers include Father Michael Oleksa and Kodiak’s Sven Haakanson. For more information, go to the association’s website .

D’Elia says there will be over 100 workshops held between Friday and Monday:

Coinciding with the library association convention is the second annual Kodiak Out Loud fisher poets event. Organizer Toby Sullivan said it will be a perfect fit with the librarians and authors in town:

D’Elia says the library convention will acknowledge the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez with one of its guest authors:
